Who we are

Burt GARRICK

Pastor

Burt has been our Pastor since Easter Sunday 2015, although he has been a member since 2005 and has an association with the church going back to 1996. Before becoming our full-time Pastor, he was previously our youth worker, serving from 2007 – 2011. He is a qualified secondary school teacher and studied Theology at ICC in Glasgow where he graduated in 2011.

He has lived most of his life in Kilmarnock apart from a year spent volunteering with YWAM, a Christian missionary organisation based in the Midlands. Burt has a passion for the Bible and has a heart for people to be connected to it and experience the life-changing story of redemption found in its pages.

Burt is married to Lynsey and together they have two children; Ben and Zoe. In his spare time Burt enjoys reading, going to the cinema, Costa, watching Kilmarnock FC, and every now and again, attempting to exercise.

Burt has responsibility for the preaching and teaching in the church and has overall responsibility for the vision of CEC.

Andrew THOMAS

Elder

Andrew, who works in the aerospace industry, was brought up in the church, and became a Christian at a young age. He renewed that commitment at various points through the subsequent years, including being baptised in his early teens.

He left Kilmarnock to go to university in Aberdeen, studying Engineering.

After university he worked in Hull for seven years, during which time he married Margaret, who he had met at Aberdeen.

He came back to Kilmarnock, and CEC in 1997, having secured a new job at Prestwick.  He serves as an elder in the church. Andrew and Margaret have two adult children. He tries to get to the gym every week and has a season ticket for Kilmarnock FC.

Andrews has responsibility for the pastoral care in CEC.

John BURNS

John hails from Larne, in Northern Ireland. He came to Scotland in 1972, teaching Geography in Kilmarnock Academy and Belmont Academy, Ayr, till he retired in 2010.

He still loves being out and about in the Great Outdoors. John is committed to prayer in the church, and also for the persecuted Church worldwide.

Derrick has been a member of Central since September 2016 and an elder since October 2019. He previously worked as an engineer, caretaker and is a qualified nurse. Derrick and his wife currently run a Caribbean food truck catering for events as well as providing takeaways throughout East Ayrshire.

Derrick was born and raised in London to Jamaican parents from the Windrush generation. After purchasing a house in Kilmaurs in 2002, Derrick worked between Scotland and England as an agency nurse before finally making a permanent move to Scotland in 2015.

Derrick is married to Sharon. He enjoys cooking, watching sports, DIY, watching films, socialising and fishing (when he gets the chance!)
